Mawlai secured the Shillong Premier League trophy after a 5‑0 win over Rangdajied United at the SSA Stadium on Wednesday, earning their third SPL title. The victory came after two close misses in previous seasons.
With the win, Mawlai moved to 21 points, an unassailable lead that keeps rivals from catching them even with four matches left in the league.
Mawlai dominated early, scoring three goals in the first 22 minutes. Basuklang Bina opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Arkini Laloo doubled the lead three minutes later, and Fairming Suting made it 3‑0 by the 22nd minute. Rangdajied, who had several regulars on the bench, struggled to match Mawlai’s intensity and were lucky not to concede more before the break. After the interval Rangdajied brought in first‑team players and Mawlai eased the tempo. The champions added two late goals: Damanbhalang Chyne headed home from a Robertson Khongriah free‑kick in the 83rd minute and Ricky Chyne finished the rout with a 90th‑minute goal.
Mawlai finished the campaign unbeaten, recording six wins and three draws, and conceded only two goals—the best defensive record in the league—while scoring 17. The title marks their third consecutive triumph, following victories in 2022 and 2023. Players, officials and supporters celebrated on the pitch, though the trophy will be presented after the full league season concludes.
