Local MLA Tsering Lhamu inaugurated the Nalanda Library at PM Shri Government Middle School in Kuntse, Lumla subdivision of Tawang district on Monday. The MLA congratulated the school and highlighted the importance of libraries in education, saying a library is not just a house of books but a repository of knowledge and wisdom that helps students gain insight and nurtures their intelligence.
Tsering Lhamu emphasized that libraries are essential for students to acquire knowledge on diverse subjects, apart from reading for leisure. Despite budget constraints, she appreciated the Tawang DC, other officers, and the school administration for the proper execution of the project. DC Namgyal Angmo also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the significance of libraries in the digital age. She said that libraries continue to hold a significant place in students’ lives, helping develop reading skills and critical thinking.
The library was initially started in a single room with a seating capacity for around 15 students. Teachers Rinchin Sangey and others narrated how the library has helped students excel in inter-school literary activities in the district and improve their academic performance. Rabgyal Rinchen, one of the teachers, said the Nalanda Library is a symbol of hope, knowledge, and learning, reflecting the collective efforts of the administration, educators, and the community to promote a strong reading culture among students.
The library is expected to provide a peaceful and inspiring space where children can read, learn, expand their knowledge, and dream of a brighter future. The initiative is also expected to help shape young minds and foster a lifelong love for books. The inauguration was attended by Tawang DDSE Hirider Phunsok, PRI members, GBs, and public leaders, among others.
