Colonel Nasim Akhtar, an alumnus of Sainik School Imphal, has been approved for promotion to the rank of Brigadier in the Indian Army. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Colonel Akhtar, who becomes the fifth alumnus of the school to attain the distinguished rank of Brigadier.
Born in Tamkuhi Road near Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Colonel Akhtar joined Sainik School Imphal in 1987 after completing his early schooling. He went on to enter the National Defence Academy in 1995 and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) in 1999. During his illustrious career, Colonel Akhtar has demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedication to service, earning him the Sena Medal for gallantry and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for exemplary service.
Over the course of his career, Colonel Akhtar has served in various challenging environments, including the desert sector, high-altitude areas, and Headquarters Andaman & Nicobar Command. He has also completed a two-year tenure in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Following the successful command of a battalion in both the Western and Eastern sectors, he attended the prestigious Higher Defence Management Course at Secunderabad. Currently serving at the Headquarters, Directorate General Border Roads (DGBR), New Delhi, Colonel Akhtar’s promotion to Brigadier is a testament to his hard work and commitment to the Indian Army.
