The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has strongly condemned the alleged brutal murder of a 25-year-old woman by her ex-husband in Aalo, West Siang district, on Monday, 9 Jul. The commission has appealed to the state government to ensure a free and fair investigation into the case and to book the culprit(s) as per the law. The APSCW has also requested the general public to cooperate with the police investigation, so that justice can be delivered to the deceased and her family members.
The commission emphasized that it condemns all kinds of violence inflicted against women and expressed concern over the rising crimes due to the overtime opening of clubs, pubs, and bars. The APSCW has appealed to the authorities concerned to strictly regulate and enforce suitable timings for the closing and opening of such places across the state. Additionally, the commission reminded the media fraternity to take caution not to reveal the face of the victim’s family, especially if it is a minor, as per Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society’s (APWWS) West Siang district unit has also strongly condemned the alleged murder. The accused, identified as 45-year-old Todak Ngomdir, surrendered to the police the next day and is currently in custody. According to reports, the couple had separated only a month prior to the incident.
The APWWS West Siang unit expressed deep shock and grief over the incident, stating that no individual has the right to take another person’s life, irrespective of the circumstances. The unit urged society to collectively stand against all forms of violence against women and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. APWWS central executive committee (CEC) president Jarjum Ete expressed anguish over the incident, emphasizing that the whole society needs to wake up to the problem of women facing abuse in the hands of men.
Ete stressed the importance of condemning domestic violence and demanding exemplary punishment for such crimes.
