Governor KT Parnaik has emphasized the need for a vibrant and forward-looking state tea policy to unlock the sector’s full potential and ensure sustainable growth in Arunachal Pradesh.
During an interaction with members of the Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers’ Association at the Lok Bhavan on Friday, the governor highlighted the immense potential for producing high-quality and organic tea in the state, which can significantly contribute to rural livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth, particularly in the eastern and foothill districts.
The governor advised the tea growers to establish a representative corporation and engage with the state government through a comprehensive proposal outlining their requirements and long-term vision. He expressed optimism about the future of the industry, stating that coordinated efforts by the Tea Board and the state government would help tea growers access financial support, quality certification, value addition opportunities, branding initiatives, and wider market linkages.
The delegation, led by president Tadak Gab and general secretary Kapwang Arangham, sought the governor’s support for strengthening the tea sector by establishing an organic certification facility and tea auction centre, a state tea policy, and special support package for Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts. The governor encouraged the growers to focus on quality enhancement, organic cultivation, value addition, and branding to create a distinct identity for Arunachal tea in national and international markets.
He also advised the association to leverage modern technology, digital marketing platforms, and e-commerce channels to expand market access and improve profitability. The delegation apprised the governor of the progress, challenges, and future prospects of tea cultivation in the state.
The governor’s emphasis on a state tea policy is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Arunachal tea, improve livelihoods, and position the state as a distinguished producer of premium tea.
