A local holiday has been declared in South West Garo Hills district to commemorate Garo Labour Corps Day, which will be observed on July 16, 2026. The Office of the Deputy Commissioner made the announcement, stating that the holiday will be applicable throughout the district. The notification was issued in accordance with the Government of Meghalaya’s directive, as per Notification No. GAA.78/2025/23, dated October 21, 2025.
As a result of the holiday, all State Government Offices, Magisterial Courts, Revenue Offices, and Educational Institutions in South West Garo Hills District will remain closed on July 16, 2026. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed all relevant departments and educational institutions to take note of the notification and ensure necessary compliance.
