Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi to discuss flood relief, rehabilitation, and recovery efforts in the state. The meeting took place at Rijiju’s official residence, where Sarma expressed his gratitude for the Union Minister’s recent visit to Assam to review the flood situation. The Chief Minister shared that the discussions focused on strengthening rehabilitation efforts for those affected by the recent floods across the state.

Sarma emphasized that the ‘double engine government’ will intensify rehabilitation efforts to help rebuild the livelihoods of those impacted by the floods. Rijiju, in a separate post, complimented the Assam government for its proactive measures during the monsoon floods, highlighting the Centre and the state government’s continued coordination in relief, rehabilitation, and long-term recovery efforts. In another meeting, Sarma met with Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh to discuss unlocking Assam’s potential in the fisheries and dairy sectors.

The Chief Minister stated that they had a productive discussion on harnessing Assam’s immense potential in the fisheries sector, including increasing fish production, promoting fish exports, and strengthening the value chain. Sarma also discussed strengthening the dairy cooperative sector by enhancing veterinary facilities, setting up Pashu Aushadhi Kendras, establishing Tetrapack (UHT) and milk powder plants, and improving the existing cattle stock through artificial insemination. The meetings underscored the Centre and the Assam government’s commitment to working together to address the state’s challenges and unlock its potential.
