On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended Jhandewala temple on the first day of Navratri to offer prayers and perform rituals for Maa Bhagwati, seeking happiness, peace, prosperity and good health for the country’s people, according to a statement from her office.
The remarks followed the detention of more than 7,000 protesters by Delhi Police and security forces the previous day. Among those arrested were leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and several politicians who had attempted to assemble at Jantar Mantar.
During the ceremony, Gupta extended Navratri greetings to the public and said, “May the goddess grant wisdom to those spreading anarchy in Delhi and those placing their own interests above the nation’s welfare and getting troubled by the country’s progress.”
She also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing them of creating chaos with the help of their “B-Team”, the CJP. Gupta emphasized that while citizens have the right to express views, inconveniencing people, damaging public property and disrupting normal order in the name of protest are unacceptable. She reiterated that attempts to hold the city hostage or damage public property would not be tolerated and that the government remains committed to ensuring citizens’ safety and maintaining normal functioning.
