The father of former actress Twisha Sharma has approached the Supreme Court to transfer the trial from Bhopal to Delhi. He cites concerns over the initial investigation, the handling of bail proceedings, and the possibility of a fair trial in Madhya Pradesh.
Navnidhi Sharma, 61, has filed a petition to move Sessions Trial No. 584 of 2026, titled CBI vs Giribala Singh and Another, from the X District and Additional Sessions Court in Bhopal to a competent court in Delhi. The Supreme Court will hear the petition on October 16.
Twisha died at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026, about five months after her marriage. Her husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and her mother‑in‑law, retired Principal District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, are accused. The family raises concerns about Giribala Singh’s former role as a senior judicial officer and her involvement in the bail process, noting that five courts handled the matter over five days and that the court now overseeing the trial had earlier granted her anticipatory bail, later set aside by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The Supreme Court took suo‑moto cognisance of the case on May 25, after which the CBI took over the probe. On August 14, the agency filed a chargesheet against both accused for cruelty, abetment of suicide and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The transfer plea cites the CBI’s investigation in Delhi, a second post‑mortem by an AIIMS New Delhi board, forensic reports from CFSL Delhi and the presence of the investigating officer and witnesses in the National Capital Region.
