DIMAPUR, Oct 7 – The North East Institute of Social Sciences & Research (NEISSR) opened its 12th Sports Meet 2026 under the theme “Powered by Passion, Fueled by Excellence.” The ceremony featured renowned journalist and sports presenter Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucú as the special guest.
During her address, Loucú reflected on her career, urging participants to start with what they already have—interests, resources, opportunities—and let passion guide them. She stressed that excellence comes from preparation, discipline, continuous learning and perseverance.
Loucú highlighted the link between sports and social work, describing sport as a platform that unites people across language, culture, social background and status. She said the values of participation, inclusion and mutual respect align with social work’s goals of building stronger communities.
She encouraged trainees to look beyond competitions and medals, pointing to social issues such as safe playing spaces, quality training, education, family support, financial constraints, injuries and mental well‑being. Loucú underscored the growing need for social workers within the sporting ecosystem to address these concerns.
Vice‑principal Rev. Fr. G. L. Khing and Games and Sports Secretary Keneisetuo Aron Rutsa also spoke, emphasizing guidance, teamwork and the role of sports in developing cooperation and resilience. The event closed with a musical performance by Pinika Yepthomi and a vote of thanks from SCSC President Medemwati Longkumer.
