The Nagaland Post published a reflective essay titled “Pull Yourself Together” by Oswald Chambers, beginning with a quotation from Romans 6:13‑22 that urges believers to yield to righteousness and holiness.
Chambers argues that individuals cannot save, sanctify, atone, or redeem themselves; those tasks belong solely to God. He stresses that faith in Jesus Christ’s perfect atonement is essential, and that relying on personal experience alone can lead to an isolated life focused on self‑purity rather than divine purpose.
The author warns against a form of piety that lacks the foundation of the Lord’s atonement. Such piety, he says, serves only a sequestered existence and is ultimately useless to God and burdensome to people. He calls for measuring every experience against the atonement itself.
Chambers concludes that obedience grounded in the atonement brings the grace of God into everyday life. He urges readers to continually bring themselves to the “bar of the atonement,” ensuring that their actions reflect the divine grace that accompanies obedience.
