On Wednesday, October 7, suspected militants attacked the Naga village of Kailenjang in Manipur’s Senapati district, near the Kangpokpi border. The assault began around 2 p.m. with gunfire, after which the attackers set fire to at least three houses.
The attack left no reported casualties this time, but the village had already suffered a deadly attack earlier in the month. On September 26, militants killed three residents—two immediately and a third who later died from injuries—and wounded another.
Kailenjang lies about 10 kilometres west of Senapati district headquarters, close to the district boundary. The fresh attack occurred amid heightened tensions as local civil society organisations seek justice for the victims.
On October 2, a mass rally in Senapati district headquarters presented a nine‑point memorandum to the chief minister, demanding a written response within seven days and warning that further democratic agitation would follow if the state failed to comply. Key demands included forming a Special Investigation Team led by a senior police officer of at least Inspector General rank, submitting a report within 30 days, and filing a charge‑sheet within 45 days.
