Imphal – The 94th Indian Air Force Day was observed at MPP Hall in Imphal on Thursday. The celebration, organised by the 1 Manipur Air Squadron of the National Cadet Corps, carried the theme “Infallible, Impervious and Precise.” MLA Khumukcham Joykisan Singh urged students to look to the armed forces as a source of discipline, honour, adventure and self‑less service.
Joykisan Singh explained that October 8 is observed nationwide to mark the founding of the Indian Air Force on 8 October 1932. He noted that the force has grown from modest beginnings into one of the world’s most powerful and technologically advanced air forces, ranking as the fourth‑largest globally. He highlighted the IAF’s record in the 1947, 1965 and 1971 wars and the 1999 Kargil conflict, and its role as a first responder in natural disasters and in evacuating citizens from conflict zones. He also emphasised the humanitarian relief missions and described the motto “Touch the Sky with Glory” as a living vision for every serviceman and woman.
Wing Commander Mutum Sandip Singh, commanding officer of the 1 Manipur Air Squadron, said the day is not only a celebration but also a moment to honour those who served with unwavering dedication. He praised the IAF’s consistent response to both conflict and crisis, its adoption of modern technology, and its core values of integrity, service and excellence. He called on everyone to renew their commitment to the ideals that guide the air force and thanked the warriors and their families for their sacrifices.
The programme included videos tracing the IAF’s history, cultural performances of songs and dances, and a gathering of dignitaries such as Brigadier Vikrant Kulkarni, Group Commander of the NCC Group Headquarters, Group Captain Binoy Chongtham (Retd.), Nancy Sharma, CTO of Jawahar Navodaya, as well as air veterans, officers, staff members of Vidyalaya Khumbong and cadets.
