Kohima police arrested two individuals after recovering around 20,000 suspected Yaba tablets from a Hyundai Venue at Kidima Prayer Park Junction during a routine vehicle check.
The vehicle, registered AS01EB0630, showed recent modifications, including a section of the floor that had been welded and painted. Police searched the car and found small black polythene packets hidden in structural cavities.
Ten medium‑sized packets were recovered, each containing smaller packages that together held about 20,000 tablets. The seized tablets are estimated to have a minimum street value of Rs 800 each, placing the total value of the seizure at roughly Rs 1.60 crore.
The occupants, Nazrul Islam, 36, and Deben Kumar Das, 40, both from Silchar district in Assam, were identified and arrested on the spot. They claimed to be transporting the drugs from Churachandpur in Manipur to Silchar. A case has been registered at Kezocha Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and investigators are probing the alleged supply network and interstate links.
