Switzerland’s President Guy Parmelin will arrive in New Delhi on 5 October for a three‑day state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders are scheduled to meet on the first day to review progress in bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, science, technology, mobility, culture and people‑to‑people links.
Parmelin will also discuss regional and global developments, including cooperation in multilateral forums. He is set to meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will call on the Swiss president during his stay.
The visit is accompanied by a high‑level delegation of senior officials and business leaders. It will be Parmelin’s first state visit to India and the second this year, following his February trip to attend the AI Impact Summit. The trip’s significance is heightened by his participation in the 2nd India‑EFTA Prosperity Summit on 7 October 2026, marking the first anniversary of the India‑EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Switzerland remains the largest EFTA partner for India.
Earlier this year, the two leaders met on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit in New Delhi and reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic ties, particularly under the TEPA that entered force in October 2025. In June, Parmelin welcomed Modi at the Geneva airport before the G7 summit in Evian, further underscoring the friendly relations between the two countries.
