India added four medals to its Asian Games tally on Thursday, bringing the country’s total to 65 medals – 10 gold, 23 silver and 32 bronze – and keeping India inside the top ten of the medal standings.
The first sailing medal for India came when Kerala cousins Prince Kurisinkal Noble and Manu Francis won silver in the men’s skiff event, finishing behind China and ahead of Hong Kong. The pair won one race and placed second in three of the nine races. Women’s skiff competitors Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma also reached the podium, earning bronze.
India’s silver in Greco‑Roman wrestling came from Nitesh Siwach, who finished runner‑up in the 97‑kg category after losing 0‑4 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato in the final. The country also picked up bronze medals in men’s and women’s squash, compound archery, and in both genders of squash as well as in compound archery.
Defending champions in men’s cricket and hockey advanced to their respective finals. India’s T20 side defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs, posting 169 for seven before bowling Sri Lanka out for 45. In hockey, a 4‑3 win over Pakistan secured a place in the final after Abhishek scored the decisive goal with 45 seconds remaining.
Other highlights included a bronze in men’s sepaktakraw after a 2‑1 win over Myanmar, a strong performance by golfer Pranavi Urs who shot 63 to move into second place, and a bronze in compound archery by Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru. The tennis campaign ended without a medal, with Sumit Nagal eliminated in the quarter‑finals.
