On Wednesday, police in Namsai district arrested Osina Chautang, a resident of Solungtoo village, after seizing 82 grams of suspected heroin estimated to be worth about Rs 16.40 lakh. The arrest followed a search operation conducted in the village.
Acting on credible information, a police team led by Namsai SDPO Kengo Dirchi carried out the search at Chautang’s residence. The operation, supervised by SP Sangey Thinley, resulted in the seizure of the drug.
Chautang was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and a case was registered at the Namsai police station. During preliminary interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had procured the heroin from outside the district for further distribution.
Police are verifying the admission and continuing to investigate the supply chain, including identifying forward and backward linkages, in order to dismantle the wider drug‑trafficking network operating in the region.
