Russia's drone attacks kill 7 in Ukraine

Russia’s continuous drone bombardment of Ukraine has killed at least seven people and wounded more than 50, officials said on Monday. The attacks targeted apartment buildings, offices, data centres and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in downtown Kyiv.

Specific strikes included a strike on Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district that killed a woman and damaged the National Academy of Sciences, a drone hitting a pharmaceutical company and gas stations in the capital, and an attack on an office centre in central Dnipro that killed three people and wounded at least 12. A nine‑story apartment building in Kharkiv was struck, wounding 43, including 11 children, while a drone hit a residential area in Chernihiv, injuring four people, two of them teenage girls.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces hit two data centres and gas stations in Kyiv, struck a Nova Poshta distribution hub in Odesa, and damaged cargo ships in the Black Sea and at the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk. The strikes aim to curb Ukraine’s grain exports and may create food shortages in countries that rely on Ukrainian imports. Moscow maintains that it only targets military sites, though civilian areas are regularly hit.

Amid the bombardment, Ukraine’s Third Army Corps announced that its Operation Vivaldi offensive had recaptured 51 square kilometres in the Donetsk region, using converted BTR‑60 armoured personnel carriers as kamikaze vehicles and ground robots to breach Russian fortifications. Russian officials claimed they captured the villages of Novovodiane and Ulanove, but the claims were not independently verified.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported long‑range strikes on Russian soil that hit defence plants in the Tula and Voronezh regions and oil facilities in Krasnodar. Ukrainian drones sparked fires at three infrastructure facilities in Krasnodar, while Russia’s Defence Ministry said it shot down 254 Ukrainian drones overnight.
