Manipur: Ukhrul MLA launches 5 ambulances, 500 solar street lights

On Wednesday, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah inaugurated five advanced life‑support ambulances and 500 solar street lights in the district, aiming to improve emergency healthcare and sustainable lighting for remote villages.

The ceremony took place at the AAI Imphal community hall and was attended by Imphal Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing, Honpam Keishing, joint general manager of electrical services, airport officials, CISF personnel and others.

The initiative was funded through the Airports Authority of India’s corporate social responsibility programme and is being implemented by Ukhrul Football Club in partnership with North East Power Infra. Muivah thanked AAI for the successful execution, calling the day a “small red‑letter day” for Ukhrul and Manipur.

Muivah highlighted that many villages in his constituency still lack electricity, despite a 33‑KV substation promised for Sahamphung in 2022. He noted that residents, especially seniors, feel “blind” after sunset due to the power deficit.

The 500 solar street lights will be distributed equally across the 52 villages in the constituency, with priority for the most remote areas. One ambulance will go to Talui Primary Health Centre, another to Kamjong District Hospital, and the remaining three will be stationed at Ukhrul District Hospital.

Imphal Airport Director Keishing said the project’s sanctioned cost is Rs 2.20 crore. He emphasized that well‑equipped ambulances can save lives when every minute counts, and that solar lighting offers an environmentally sustainable solution that improves public safety during evenings and nights.
