In Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, the Do•bu police outpost has been assigned a full‑time officer‑in‑charge, a move that follows a formal request from local civil society groups. The request, which included the A Chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) Do•bu Regional Unit and the Garo Student Union (GSU) Do•bu Regional Unit, was forwarded to the state government for consideration.
The request was reviewed by the Superintendent of Police (SP) for East Garo Hills, who approved the appointment on August 24. The decision was then announced by Cabinet Minister and Member of the Legislative Assembly Marcuise N Marak, who confirmed that the Do•bu outpost would now have a permanent police officer on duty.
Prior to this appointment, the Do•bu outpost operated without a dedicated officer, relying on temporary postings from nearby police stations. The introduction of a full‑time officer is expected to enhance law‑and‑order presence and improve coordination with community organisations.
The appointment marks a significant step in strengthening policing infrastructure in the region and reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns raised by civil society organisations about security and community engagement in East Garo Hills.
