At least 27 people died in a series of heavy‑rain‑related incidents across Nepal from September 24 to 28, officials reported on Tuesday. Four individuals remain missing and eight others were injured, according to the Nepal Home Ministry.
During the same period the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority recorded 304 landslide events, which caused 20 deaths, four missing persons and seven injuries. Flood‑related incidents numbered 87, with four fatalities and 151 separate heavy‑rain events that claimed three lives and injured one person.
The monsoon damage was extensive: 227 houses were destroyed and 142 were partially damaged. Floods and landslides damaged 31 bridges, and 114 livestock were killed.
A massive landslide on Sunday in Nepal’s Manang district sent debris into the Marsyangdi River, briefly blocking parts of the waterway. Authorities warned residents downstream to remain alert, though the blockage was short‑lived and the river returned to normal without major damage.
The country is still recovering from last month’s devastating flash floods that originated near the Nepal‑Tibet border, which killed at least 1,453 people and left more than 5,000 missing. Those floods swept away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges, and damaged hydropower projects. Frequent landslides continue to threaten communities as monsoon rains intensify.
