An avalanche struck the base camp of the 7,126‑metre Himlung Himal peak in Nepal’s Manang district on September 27, leaving ten people missing, local media reported.
The Expedition Operators Association Nepal said eight climbers from Himalayan Holidays Nepal and two support staff from Imagine Nepal Treks lost contact after the snow slide buried their tents at the base camp in the Nar Phu area.
Ram Krishna Lamichhane, director general of the Department of Tourism, said authorities were closely monitoring the situation and were working to locate and rescue the missing parties. The identities of those unaccounted for have not yet been confirmed.
The incident comes amid a period of continuous rain and snowfall across Nepal’s mountain districts, which has triggered landslides and floods in the region.
