India secured a haul of medals at the Asian Games in Nagoya, with Sarvesh Kushare and Ancy Sojan each earning silver in the men’s high jump and women’s long jump finals, respectively, while Parul Chaudhary added a bronze in the women’s 3000 metres steeplechase.
Kushare led most of the high‑jump competition before slipping to second place after failing to clear 2.25 metres on his first attempt; he cleared the height on his second try, but Chinese Taipei’s Chao Hsuan‑Fu had already cleared it on his first. In the long‑jump final, Ancy recorded a best of 6.53 metres, finishing behind China’s Huang Yingying who finished with a 6.55‑metre jump that secured gold.
In track, Harita Bhadra claimed bronze in the women’s 200 metres with a time of 23.20 seconds, edging Japan’s Ido Abigeirufuka (23.21). Parul Chaudhary, who had taken bronze in the previous Games, lowered the Indian record to 9:08.67 in the steeplechase, finishing 2.46 seconds behind Kazakhstan’s Norah Tanui (9:06.82). Tejaswin Shankar earned bronze in the men’s decathlon, scoring 7,934 points and winning the final 1500‑metre run in 4:33.09.
In squash, 18‑year‑old Anahat Singh became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal in singles, falling to Malaysia’s defending champion Sivasangari Subramaniam 4‑11, 4‑11, 7‑11 in the final. Men’s singles saw Abhay Singh also finish with silver after a 9‑11, 5‑11, 5‑11 loss to Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng. Neither Indian received the Olympic quota spot reserved for the gold medallist, but both performances marked historic achievements for Indian squash.
