On Thursday in Washington, President Xi Jinping announced that China will invite 100,000 young Americans to visit China for exchanges and study over the next five years.
The announcement follows a 2023 initiative that invited 50,000 young Americans, a target that was reached ahead of schedule.
Xi said the hope of China‑US relations lies in the people and that the future depends on the young. He referenced the joint fight against fascist aggression in World War II, noting that both nations remember that history. He called for continued friendship and cooperation to build a better world.
Earlier, former President Donald Trump had highlighted the U.S. role in World War II, citing the Flying Tigers and the Marines’ adoption of the Chinese phrase “Gung Ho” as symbols of cooperation. Trump said that shared interests and historical ties could guide future collaboration on security, technology and other areas.
