In Indore on Sunday, a stand‑up comedian named Pulkit Mani performed a mimicry act of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Rahul Gandhi’s student‑focused “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme. The act, which replicated Modi’s laugh, hand gestures and greeting style, drew laughter from the Raebareli MP and quickly became fodder for political commentary.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reacted on X by sharing the Congress post featuring the clip and adding, “Congress Party has become a Party of Comedians & Jokers! They are out forever… RIP.” His comment came amid a broader exchange over the programme, in which Gandhi addressed student concerns such as unemployment and exam irregularities.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam of Maharashtra questioned the appropriateness of mimicry at a student‑focused event. Speaking to IANS, he said, “When will Rahul Gandhi himself reflect on the fact that mimicry can provide entertainment? But if the country has to move forward and we have to talk about the upliftment of students, then it is necessary to discuss policy, hard work and opportunities.” Kadam further accused Gandhi of misleading students and creating confusion about the Constitution during the Lok Sabha elections.

Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also criticised Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” event, accusing the Congress of failing to listen to student concerns. He told IANS, “Across the country, there is no one listening to the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj.’ When they had the opportunity, they did not listen to the students’ concerns. If students want their voices to be heard, they have to wander from place to place.” Yadav added, “For 60 years, the Congress Party has been in power, and students have faced the most difficulties. You may remember that the student movement began in Bihar, and due to the student movement, the government was completely wiped out from power in Bihar and several other states and across the country.”
