An emergency meeting of the All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) was held at the CANNSEA office in Kohima on September 18. The gathering, attended by teachers from 15 districts, resolved to establish a Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for Pre RTE teachers.
The newly formed JCC will be led by Kezhalezo Solo of Kohima as convenor, with Chingwang Konyak of Mon district as co‑convenor and Sherin Keppen of Chümoukedima district as treasurer. Each district will provide two additional members, bringing the committee’s representation across the state.
The committee’s mandate is to pursue a case with elected representatives and the Chief Minister of Nagaland, seeking exemption of Pre RTE teachers from the National Teacher Eligibility Test (NTET) examination. It also agreed to raise a contribution of Rs. 1,000 from each affected teacher.
Approximately 600 to 700 teachers who were appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act were present, except for those from Noklak and Longleng districts. The meeting was chaired by Kezhalezo Solo, who serves as ANSTA’s vice president.
