The Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) captured the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy after a hard‑fought final against Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia (SSVCC) at the multi‑purpose indoor stadium in Mokokchung on September 18.
CVA secured the championship with set scores of 25‑22, 25‑19, 14‑25, and 28‑26, demonstrating composure and skill in the decisive match. The association walked away with the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 80,000, while SSVCC earned Rs. 50,000 as runners‑up. The two semi‑finalist teams each received Rs. 15,000.
Individual accolades were awarded to Yongkongtenzuk of CVA for Best Spiker, Sarilpzung of CVA for Best Setter, and Imtinungba of SSVCC as Player of the Tournament, each receiving a Rs. 5,000 prize.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Minister for Rural Development Metsubo Jamir, who praised the organizers for uniting teams from across Nagaland for three days of spirited competition. In his remarks, Jamir highlighted the importance of participation over winning and celebrated the legacy of Luke Sasong, describing him as a pioneer whose leadership earned Nagaland the title “Land of Pioneers.” He urged the gathering to honor Sasong’s memory and called on young athletes to carry forward his legacy of courage and service.
The tournament, organized by the Luke Sasong Sporting Association under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students’ Union, once again underscored the values of sportsmanship, youth development, and community unity that Luke Sasong championed during his lifetime.
