Idukki, September 17 – Former Thodupuzha municipal chairman Saneesh George was taken into custody on suspicion of drug abuse, officials said.

The arrest followed a search carried out by the Idukki District Anti‑Narcotics Special Action Force as part of the police anti‑drug drive, Operation Toofan. Police were alerted that George was allegedly using drugs at an isolated location near Thodupuzha and arrived there in the early hours of Thursday. By the time the team reached the site, he had reportedly consumed the substance.

No synthetic drug was recovered from his possession. George was brought to Kaliyar police station, where his blood was sampled and sent for testing to determine whether he had ingested a narcotic. Depending on the results, the police will register a case and take further action.

George won the 2020 municipal election as a UDF rebel and became chairman with the support of the LDF. He resigned in 2024 after being named as an accused in a bribery case.
