In a dramatic Old Trafford clash, Manchester City edged bitter rivals Manchester United 1-0, thanks to Erling Haaland’s late strike. The Norwegian’s goal, initially ruled offside, was overturned after a VAR review, giving City a narrow victory while United lost their first‑half advantage.
City’s Phil Foden was sent off midway through the first half after kicking out at Bruno Fernandes from a prone position. United pressed for a response, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo hitting the woodwork on either side of halftime, but the red card left their attack hampered.
The tide turned at the hour mark when Haaland steered a tight‑angle shot past the keeper. VAR footage showed defender Patrick Dorgu’s outstretched foot kept the Norwegian onside, allowing the goal to stand. The win places City second in the table with 12 points from four games, trailing champions Arsenal on goal difference, while United fall to 13th with four points.
Elsewhere, Brighton demolished Coventry 5-0 at home. Frank Lampard’s side suffered a nightmare start, losing their first four matches without scoring and falling to the bottom of the standings with a goal difference of minus ten. Brighton opened the scoring through Charalampos Kostoulas and added four more after halftime from Malick Yalcouye, Pascal Gross, Lewis Dunk and Yasin Ayari.
