In Dimapur, the RML Cancer Foundation (RMLCF) carried out the second phase of its blood donation drive at the NHAK Blood Bank in Kohima, collecting 33 voluntary donations.
The drive responds to the ongoing need for readily available blood in hospitals. The Department of Information & Public Relations, citing the Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Nagaland, states that the state requires about 20,000 units annually. Relying only on emergency donors can cause delays when patients urgently need blood.
The initiative is especially important for RMLCF, which works with cancer patients. Cancer and treatments such as chemotherapy can cause anemia and lower blood cell or platelet counts, often requiring repeated transfusions. Having a steady supply of blood is essential for timely and uninterrupted care.
Through its annual blood donation drive, RMLCF seeks to foster a culture of regular, voluntary donation, encouraging people to give not only during emergencies but also to ensure blood is available whenever patients need it.
