On Saturday, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and the ICAR-ATARI, Zone‑VII Umiam unit in South Garo Hills joined forces to celebrate National Nutrition Week at the CAU‑Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Training Hall in Chokpot.
The event was organized by the Social Welfare Department and the Chokpot ICDS Project, led by CDPO Georgiana K. Sangma. She highlighted the importance of nutrition and the role of the community in fostering healthy growth among children.
Dr. Athokpam Haribhushan, Head and Principal Scientist of the South Garo Hills KVK, spoke about the centre’s commitment to improving nutrition and community health. He quoted the phrase “An’tangtangni cha gipako ge china aro geatangko cha china,” meaning that good health is rooted in proper nutrition.
The program also featured technical sessions for 36 Anganwadi workers, conducted by KVK’s SMS (Horticulture) specialist Basu Langpoklakpam and SMS (Plant Protection) expert Dr. Tanya R. Marak. The day concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to ask questions and share their experiences.
