PASIGHAT, 6 Aug – A delegation of the Arunachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association (APUTA) led by President Dr Eli Doye and General Secretary Dr Lige Sora met Vice Chancellor Dr Milorari Modi at his chamber on Thursday. The group reiterated APUTA’s long‑standing demand that the retirement age for university teachers be raised from 60 to 65 years, in line with University Grants Commission guidelines.
APUTA had previously submitted a memorandum to the governor, acting as the university’s chancellor, on 30 October 2025. Nearly ten months later, the association reports that little progress has been made on the issue.
The current retirement age at Arunachal Pradesh University does not align with UGC recommendations or the practices of most central and state universities. APUTA argues that aligning the age would help the institution retain experienced faculty, strengthen academic leadership, and maintain continuity in teaching, research, and administration.
The association also highlighted that a higher superannuation age would facilitate mentoring of younger faculty and research scholars. In response, Dr Modi assured the delegation that the matter would be pursued positively with the appropriate authorities at the earliest, according to an APUTA release.
