Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15‑year‑old batter from Bengaluru, is rewriting records but one statistic continues to frustrate him – he has not yet passed the nineties.
On August 31, he was dismissed for 92 off 81 balls in the Duleep Trophy semi‑final against Central Zone, marking the seventh occasion since November 2025 that he has fallen between 90 and 99. The dismissal came as he tried to clear the boundary against Harsh Dubey and was caught by a fielder. Earlier in the innings he reached his fifty in just 42 balls, becoming the youngest player at 15 years and 157 days to score a Duleep Trophy fifty.
His seven scores in the nineties include 93 against Meghalaya, 96 versus Scotland Under‑19s, 93 against Lucknow Super Giants, 97 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, 96 against Gujarat Titans, 94 against Sri Lanka A and the recent 92 against Central Zone. Most of the dismissals have occurred while attempting attacking shots, including three deep catches during the 2026 IPL.
The pattern underscores Sooryavanshi’s remarkable consistency across formats and competition levels. At just 15, he has amassed seven nineties but the elusive hundred still remains out of reach.
