The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Churachandpur convened a meeting on Wednesday to review the “Catch the Rain” campaign, which outlines departmental work to be completed by May 31, 2027. The session was held in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and chaired by DRDA Executive Director and Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS.
Senior district officials and heads of relevant departments attended, including the District Forest Officer, Chief Executive Officer/Additional Deputy Commissioner, the Project Director, Zilla Education Officer, Sub-Divisional Officers, Block Development Officers, and representatives from the Public Health Engineering Department, Water Resources Department, Public Works Department, Health, Agriculture and Horticulture. The agenda centered on finalising each department’s tasks, identifying funding sources, and establishing a monitoring system to track progress through the 2027 deadline.
Project Director Jameson Hangsing presented a detailed plan of department‑wise contributions and activities. Participants discussed their respective roles, proposed works, financing arrangements and implementation responsibilities. Kumar urged all departments to adopt concrete rainwater conservation measures, highlighting the installation of rooftop rainwater harvesting systems across government offices as a priority.
Kumar emphasized that rainwater harvesting should be treated as a core component of water conservation rather than a temporary campaign activity. He instructed departments to adhere to prescribed timelines, ensure timely planning, execution and reporting, and avoid overlapping schemes to improve accountability and optimise resource use. The campaign aims to promote rainwater harvesting, water conservation and sustainable water management through coordinated departmental interventions, targeting measurable progress by the end of May 2027.
