UP teen gang-raped on moving bus in Noida

A 16-year-old girl from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, boarded a sleeper bus in Greater Noida on the night of August 4 after leaving home in a dispute with her mother. She intended to travel to Noida Sector 63, where her cousin resides, but mistakenly alighted at Pari Chowk amid heavy rain around 9 p.m. Realising she was still about 25 km from her destination, she accepted a lift offered by a bus that stopped nearby.

The bus, operated by a travel company, was not on a regular passenger route that night. According to investigators, it had been taken to a workshop in Surajpur, Greater Noida, for repairs after a technical fault. The conductor and driver collected the vehicle from the workshop at approximately 5 p.m. and began a journey around 9 p.m., during which they picked up the girl at Pari Chowk under the pretext of taking her to Sector 63.

Police say the two accused gang‑raped the girl while the bus was in motion and later abandoned her near Kashmere Gate in Old Delhi, more than 40 km from the point of pickup. The victim managed to reach a police station by taking an auto‑rickshaw. Both the conductor and driver have been arrested, and a First Information Report was filed by Delhi Police.

Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the case, directing Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar to conduct an expedited investigation and submit an action‑taken report within seven days. DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt confirmed that the FIR was registered without raising jurisdictional issues and that a search for the accused is underway.
