‘Bokshi’ trailer spotlights Sikkim’s myths and landscapes

Indian horror film “Bokshi,” shot extensively across Sikkim and inspired by the region’s myths, landscapes and folk traditions, has released its trailer ahead of a nationwide theatrical debut on October 9. The promotional clip highlights the state’s forests, mountains and remote locales as integral to the movie’s visual and narrative framework.

The story follows troubled teenager Anahita, portrayed by Prasanna Bisht, who joins a school expedition into the mountains. The trek leads the group to a mysterious site that gradually reveals unsettling links to an ancient legend and Bokshi, a feared figure in local folklore. As the journey unfolds, Anahita and her history teacher Shalini, played by Mansi Multani, become entangled in increasingly sinister events involving rituals, mystery and supernatural forces.

Director‑producer Bhargav Saikia and writer‑executive producer Harsh Vaibhav spent nearly three years researching Sikkim before mounting an 80‑day shoot across East and West Sikkim and around Gangtok. The production incorporated several local artists, including Trishala Tamang, Biru Tamang, Avishek Lama, Prabhat Pakhrin, Bhasker Pradhan and Yangnim Subba. Sikkim‑based line producer Timoti Rai assisted with research, planning and execution throughout the development phase.

The trailer has attracted the attention of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who shared it on Instagram and voiced enthusiasm for the project. Saikia and Vaibhav emphasized that the film’s close ties to Sikkim’s landscape and cultural traditions make its release particularly meaningful for audiences in Sikkim and the Darjeeling hills.

Prior to its Indian release, “Bokshi” screened at major international film festivals, taking its region‑rooted story to global audiences. The film is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on October 9.
