Sikkim has dispatched a 35‑member relief team comprising doctors and volunteers to Nepal, bringing essential relief materials to the disaster‑affected regions. The delegation is tasked with on‑ground assessment of needs and the provision of immediate humanitarian assistance.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay said the team will evaluate requirements in the affected areas before the state decides on additional support. He highlighted that medicines have emerged as the most urgent need, alongside other essential supplies, and that further assistance will be calibrated based on the team’s findings.
Golay linked Sikkim’s decision to the state’s own experience with the South Lhonak glacial lake outburst flood in 2023, which caused extensive loss of life and infrastructure damage. He recalled that Sikkim received significant aid and goodwill from India, Nepal and other neighboring regions after that disaster. Emphasising humanitarian solidarity, Golay noted the prayers and blessings Sikkim received from Nepal and affirmed that the current response is a reciprocal gesture of cooperation and support.
