A 21-year-old nurse belonging to a Scheduled Tribe community was found dead on Saturday with bleeding injuries on her face in a room near the hospital where she worked, police said. Hospital staff discovered her and alerted authorities. The woman was a native of Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Senior police officials reported that she is suspected to have been murdered by an unidentified person. One individual has been taken into custody and a murder case has been registered at Pahadi Shareef police station. Investigators are examining the circumstances of her death from all angles, including the possibility of an attempted sexual assault, and are awaiting the medical report.
State Women and Child Welfare Minister D. Anasuya Seethakka expressed shock over the incident, called DGP C. V. Anand and ordered a high‑level, thorough inquiry. In an official release she urged swift action to expedite the probe, ensure justice for the bereaved family, and promised government assistance while warning that tough measures would be taken against crimes targeting women.
BJP leaders, including Maheshwaram Assembly constituency in‑charge Andela Sriramulu, alleged that police were attempting to suppress facts. The leaders visited the state‑run hospital where a post‑mortem on the nurse’s body was being performed.
