A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman, a principal accused in the Al‑Hind ISIS conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 48,000. The verdict was delivered on August 30, following a trial that began in October 2025.
The case was first registered by the Karnataka State Police on 10 January 2020 and was subsequently taken over by the NIA on 23 January 2020, designated as RC‑04/2020/NIA/DLI (Al‑Hind ISIS case). To date, the agency has filed three chargesheets against a total of 20 individuals, all of whom have been arrested.
Investigators identified the conspiracy as being orchestrated by Mehaboob Pasha, the prime accused, who convened planning meetings at his residence in Gurappanapalya, Bengaluru. During these sessions, the group discussed targeted killings intended to spark communal riots and advance the anti‑national agenda of the proscribed ISIS outfit. Earlier, Haneef Khan was convicted on 14 July 2026 after pleading guilty; he had been part of a reconnaissance team that surveyed forested areas in Shivanasamudra, Chamarajanagar district, and Gundlupet to locate potential training camps. Syed Fasiur Rehaman was found to have attended the meetings and to have purchased tents and knives from a Decathlon Sports showroom for use in jungle‑camp training.
The prosecution stated that the conspirators aimed to establish an ISIS or Da’ish wilayah in the region. NIA officials said the investigation remains active, with efforts ongoing to identify the online handler who allegedly coordinated the module’s formation.
