IYC protests outside RSS office over alleged ‘casteist’ ideology

On August 30, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers staged a protest outside the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Jhandewalan, New Delhi, alleging that the BJP‑RSS alliance promotes a discriminatory and casteist ideology. The demonstration included slogans, placards and the burning of pages from the ancient text Manusmriti.

The protest was led by IYC national president Uday Bhanu Chib, who carried a copy of the Indian Constitution and its Preamble while raising slogans against the Manusmriti.

Visuals showed participants holding copies of the Constitution’s Preamble, posters opposing the Manusmriti and the ancient legal code itself. Some activists set fire to pages of the Manusmriti, leaving partially burnt copies and signs reading “Reject Manu Smriti” on the ground. Chib claimed the country is witnessing a battle between the values of the Constitution and an ideology he described as inspired by the Manusmriti and “anti‑Dalit.” He added, “This country will be governed by the Constitution, not by the Manusmriti.”

Police detained Chib during the protest and escorted him to Paharganj police station, according to the IYC. IYC national general secretary Hari Krishna and other Youth Congress office‑bearers were also present. The RSS has not issued an immediate statement on the Youth Congress’s allegations.
