The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) announced on August 30 that it has seized more than 18 kilograms of psychotropic substances and arrested four individuals in two separate operations in Bengaluru and Pune. The seizures included approximately 14.9 kilograms of amphetamine in Bengaluru and a combined 2.53 kilograms of amphetamine plus 878 grams of MDMA tablets in Pune, all conducted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
In Bengaluru, DRI officers acted on intelligence on August 25 to stop an Indian woman traveling from New Delhi to Bengaluru at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station. Examination of her baggage revealed seven packets of a crystalline substance identified as amphetamine. A swift follow‑up at the designated delivery point led to the interception of two additional individuals attempting to receive the contraband, resulting in the arrest of all three participants.
A separate intelligence‑led operation later that day at Pune Junction targeted another Indian woman arriving from Delhi via Hazrat Nizamuddin. Her luggage contained 2.53 kilograms of amphetamine and 878 grams of MDMA tablets. The passenger was detained and the substances seized under the NDPS Act.
The DRI highlighted that these actions are part of a broader crackdown on synthetic drug trafficking. In the past two weeks, the agency has confiscated roughly 150 kilograms of amphetamine‑type stimulants across five operations, including large methamphetamine consignments intercepted along the North‑Eastern frontier and an export shipment bound for Saudi Arabia.
