The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dimapur convicted a Food Business Operator (FBO) on August 4, 2026, under Section 59(i) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Food Safety, reported that the court sentenced the FBO to simple imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs. 1,00,000.
The criminal complaint was filed by the Food Safety Officer and the Designated Officer for the Dimapur zone, with representation from the Additional Public Prosecutor and Assistant Public Prosecutor of the state. A comparable conviction occurred on March 16, 2026, in the CJM Court of Mokokchung, where the accused FBO received the same sentence and fine.
The Directorate highlighted that these judgments represent a significant step in reinforcing food safety law enforcement across Nagaland. It noted that several food safety cases are currently pending before CJM Courts and Adjudicating Officer courts in multiple districts.
The Department of Health & Family Welfare reaffirmed its commitment to monitor food quality, hygiene, and safety throughout the state and to pursue stringent legal action against violations. It urged manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, cloud kitchens, restaurants, and other stakeholders to maintain vigilance and comply with statutory duties. Consumers were encouraged to report concerns through the Food Safety Cell or the “Food Safety Connect” mobile app, underscoring that food safety is a shared civic responsibility.
