Mayur Bora, a renowned writer, critic, and former Deputy General Manager of NABARD, has joined the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) as Author-in-Residence and Director of the Centre for Competitive Examinations (CCE).
In his new role, Bora will mentor students in developing their writing skills, focusing on utilizing AI to strengthen and complement human faculties. He aims to restore the importance of nuance in intellectual discourse, foster critical thinking, and facilitate the free exchange of ideas. Bora will also help students improve their oratorical and articulation skills, including building confidence in public speaking and job interviews.
As Director of the Centre for Competitive Examinations, Bora is expected to bring a fresh perspective to USTM’s efforts in nurturing and empowering young minds for success in competitive examinations and public service. He will provide academic, strategic, and professional guidance for the development and effective functioning of the Centre.
Bora brings over 25 years of professional experience to his new role, having served as Deputy General Manager at NABARD before taking voluntary retirement in 2021. He has also served as a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Bank Management, Guwahati, and as an interview board member for various examinations.
A prolific writer, Bora has authored 18 books, including 16 in Assamese and two in English. He has delivered numerous memorial and foundation day lectures in Assam and around the world, including in the USA and the UK. Bora was recently felicitated by the Consul General of India at Atlanta, USA, for highlighting Assam’s unique societal feature of great Hindu-Muslim amity and camaraderie.
