A free medical camp and awareness programme was held at Longsa Baptist Church (LBC) in Wokha on August 22. The event was organised by LBC in collaboration with the Medical Department Wokha. According to a press release from the CMO Office Wokha, the camp aimed to provide health services and raise awareness about various health-related issues.
Dr. Thungchangbemo Ezung, CMO Wokha, delivered a health talk during the event, citing the World Health Organisation’s definition of health as ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’ He encouraged participants to practice regular exercise for physical and mental well-being and emphasised the importance of a nutritious, balanced diet in preventing diseases. Dr. Ezung also stressed the importance of regular medical check-ups, noting that diseases such as cancer can be treated effectively in their early stages. He highlighted the need to prioritise mental health through creative activities and healthy interpersonal relationships.
Additionally, he urged participants to avoid harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol to maintain good health. The camp also included an awareness session on HIV and AIDS, conducted by Patrick W. Tungoe, DRP NUN LWS, DAPCU Wokha, as part of the Intensified Information, Education and Communication campaign.
Various health services were provided during the camp, including medical check-ups, blood sugar tests, HIV testing, blood pressure monitoring, CMHIS card generation, chest X-ray, sputum collection, and distribution of free medicines. More than 200 beneficiaries availed the services provided during the camp.
