The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counter-intelligence wing detained a suspect during raids at multiple locations across the valley on Saturday, targeting suspected terror-related activities, online misuse, and alleged radicalisation networks. The raids were carried out in Kupwara, Baramulla, Budgam, Anantnag, Shopian, and Bandipora districts.
The raids were conducted in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) registered at the CIK police station in Srinagar, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) had been scrutinising social media activity and identified a suspect named Siraj Nabi Parray, a resident of Archanderhama, Magam, Budgam.
Parray was found to be operating a social media account that allegedly disseminated radical content of a potentially extremist nature. Upon scrutiny of the account, officials discovered various posts, images, and other digital material with radical and anti-national overtones. The material included content relating to radical narratives, glorification of individuals associated with terrorism, and propagation of extremist viewpoints.
The suspect was subsequently brought before the Executive Magistrate 1st Class and proceedings were initiated against him. On the orders of the Executive Magistrate, Parray has been remanded to judicial custody till August 17 and lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar. Further examination of the digital device and associated social media activity is being undertaken to ascertain the nature and extent of the online activity.
The investigation aims to identify sources and dissemination of the radical material, associated accounts and contacts, and any possible linkages requiring further investigation. The police are taking steps to crack down on suspected terror-related activities and online misuse in the valley.
