Ariha Pangambam from Manipur has made history by becoming the first-ever Indian to win an individual Gold medal at the 2026 Senior Women’s Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tagaytay City, Philippines.
The 22-year-old Indian gymnast delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 19.10 points to clinch the historic title. Her landmark achievement adds another milestone to Manipur’s sporting success and highlights the country’s growing presence in international gymnastics.
Ariha’s victory marks her comeback in the international gymnastics event, after narrowly missing the podium by securing 4th place. In 2025, Ariha also won gold in individual aerobic at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand.
Following her victory, congratulations poured in from across the country, including the Chief Minister and Governor of Manipur. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated Ariha on scripting history, saying her remarkable achievement is a moment of immense pride for Manipur and the entire nation.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla called Ariha’s victory a historic milestone for Indian gymnastics, scoring an outstanding 19.100 in the final with exceptional artistry, execution and difficulty. He also congratulated her coach, whose guidance and dedication played a vital role in this remarkable achievement.
Former CM N Biren Singh also extended his heartiest congratulations to gymnast Ariha, saying her win is indeed a proud moment for Indian gymnastics and for Manipur. He wished her many more successes ahead as she carries forward the proud sporting legacy of the state.
