Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Arunachaleswar Temple and Sri Ramana Ashram in Tiruvannamalai town on Saturday. He was welcomed by Tiruvannamalai Collector Vandana Garg and Superintendent of Police R. Uthayakumar at the Government Arts and Science College, where Mr. Shah arrived by helicopter.
His convoy then proceeded towards the temple along the Girivalam path. Mr. Shah offered prayers at the Arunachaleswar Temple, where devotees were not allowed to enter during his visit due to elaborate security arrangements. After praying, he waved at the devotees gathered at the temple entrance.
He later visited the Sri Ramana Ashram, a spiritual centre, and offered prayers before proceeding to Puducherry by road. In Puducherry, Mr. Shah will participate in the presentation ceremony of the President’s Police Colour to the Puducherry Police on Sunday morning. He was received by Lieutenant-Governor K.
Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, and other Ministers and MLAs of the Union Territory upon his arrival at the Puducherry Lok Niwas. The Home Minister’s original schedule had been changed to allow him to interact with BJP functionaries in Puducherry on Sunday.
Before leaving for Chennai on Sunday noon, Mr. Shah will also flag off the Har Ghar Tiranga yatra, an initiative by the Centre to promote nationalism ahead of Independence Day celebrations. The President’s Police Colour event, where Mr. Shah will hand over a ceremonial colour flag to the Puducherry Police, is scheduled to take place at the Police Training School ground at Gorimedu. The Puducherry Police have organised several programmes, including a parade by different wings of the force, to mark the event.
The President of India had officially announced the conferment of the prestigious President’s Police Colour to the Puducherry Police on May 8, in recognition of their exceptional service, discipline, and distinguished achievements. The ceremonial colour flag to be handed over by Mr. Shah is symbolic of this conferment. The Puducherry Police have made elaborate arrangements for the event, which will include a parade by different wings of the force.
