Karnataka Minister for Urban Development Yathindra Siddaramaiah has clarified that his father, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, will remain active in politics and public life despite announcing that he would not contest the next elections. According to Yathindra, Siddaramaiah’s statement should not be interpreted as his retirement from electoral politics.
Yathindra made this clarification in Belagavi on Monday, stating that his father would continue to campaign for Congress candidates in the next elections. He emphasized that Siddaramaiah’s decision not to fight the next Assembly polls does not signal his retirement from politics. Instead, he will remain active in politics and public life, fighting for the rights of the poor and deprived.
Yathindra also addressed other issues during his interaction with reporters, including the Cabinet expansion. He stated that the Congress high command would take a proper decision after consulting senior leaders and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Additionally, Yathindra mentioned that he would meet with Kannada organisations demanding that the Belagavi City Corporation pass a resolution affirming Belagavi’s status as an integral part of Karnataka. He assured that their demands would be considered.
Regarding reports about the Union government staying additional financial grants to the Belagavi City Corporation, Yathindra claimed he had no information. However, he stated that even local bodies without elected representatives in various states have received such grants, and the matter would be studied.
Yathindra’s visit to Belagavi was primarily to review the works of the corporation and other agencies.
