Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has advised students to remain focused on their studies, emphasizing that education is the only enduring path to success. He warned that ‘noise and unrest’ can never build a meaningful career. The Chief Minister made these remarks while attending a government programme in Guwahati on Friday, where he appealed to students to make the most of their academic years.
Sarma cautioned young people against being distracted by developments that could divert their attention from education. ‘Today, many things are happening around us,’ he said, stressing that students should stay committed to learning rather than getting drawn into issues that could derail their academic journey. He emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for social and economic mobility, particularly for middle-class, lower middle-class, and poor families.
The Chief Minister asserted that there is no substitute for knowledge and sustained academic effort. ‘If anyone believes there is an alternative to education, they are mistaken,’ he said. Sarma appealed directly to students, reminding them that their school and college years are a one-time opportunity. ‘These years will never return. Those who make the most of them will not have to look back with regret,’ he said.
Sarma emphasized the importance of discipline and dedication in education, stating that students should devote themselves wholeheartedly to learning. He noted that education opens doors to hope, opportunity, and long-term success, and that life offers numerous opportunities, but only those equipped with knowledge and skills are able to fully benefit from them.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid his government’s efforts to improve educational outcomes, expand scholarship and financial assistance programmes, and encourage students to pursue skill-oriented and specialised education to enhance employability.
