An AIMIM corporator from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been arrested by the Nashik police for allegedly providing help and shelter to an accused in the TCS sexual harassment and religious conversion case. Mateen Patel was taken into custody on Thursday, months after police tracked down accused Nida Khan to a house arranged by him in the Marathwada city.
According to the police, Patel had been summoned for an inquiry but failed to appear. A special team of Nashik city police Crime Branch visited Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and brought Patel to Nashik. Following the arrest of Nida Khan, who has since secured bail, police had registered a case against Patel and the owner of the house where she was staying.
Patel will be produced in a court later in the day, officials said. The arrest is related to a series of cases registered in connection with the alleged exploitation, attempt of forceful conversion, hurting religious sentiments, molestation, and mental harassment of employees at a branch of IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik. The matter came to light in March and is being probed by a Special Investigation Team of the Nashik police.
A total of nine cases have been registered in connection with the alleged incidents at the TCS Nashik office. After the cases came to light, TCS clarified that it has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion of any form and has suspended the employees allegedly involved in the incidents.
